Teach your dog to sit on command. Start by holding a treat close to their nose, then lift it upward and slightly backward. As their head follows the treat, their bottom should naturally lower. Once they're in a sitting position, reward them with the treat and praise.
Encourage your dog to offer their paw for a handshake. Hold a treat in your hand, and when your dog reaches out their paw to grab it, shake their paw gently. Reward them with the treat and praise.
Similar to the sit command, use a treat to guide your dog into a lying-down position. Move the treat from their nose to the ground in a straight line. As they follow the treat, their body should lower. Reward them when they are lying down.
Once your dog is comfortable with lying down, you can progress to teaching them to roll over. With your dog in a down position, hold a treat close to their nose and move it in a circular motion. As they follow the treat, they should roll over. Reward them with the treat and praise.
Teach your dog to stay in one place until given a signal to move. Start with your dog in a sitting or lying position. Hold your hand up, palm facing them, and say "stay." Take a step back, then return to them and reward with a treat if they stayed in place.
Extend the paw-shaking trick to a high five. After your dog offers their paw, raise your hand slightly higher, and when they touch it with their paw, reward them with a treat and praise.
Teach your dog to retrieve a toy or object. Start by encouraging them to pick up a toy in their mouth. Use the command "fetch" and reward them when they bring it back to you. Gradually increase the distance over time.
Encourage your dog to spin in a circle on command. Hold a treat near their nose and guide them in a circular motion. Use a command like "spin" while guiding them. When they complete the circle, reward them with the treat and praise.
