Ballet is taught at all class levels, stressing proper technique and placement. It includes traditional barre and center work designed to build a beautiful, graceful, and healthy body with fine posture and poise. With sufficient study of ballet, proper technique and a strong body, a dancer may advance to Pointe work. Pointe is an extension of ballet training — taught with Pointe shoes.
Today ballet is seen in many different forms. One sees modern ballets choreographed to very modern music, but many still prefer the traditional type of footwork in ballets like “Swan Lake.” Ballet interprets music through a variety of accepted movements. More modern forms may incorporate elements from other dance traditions. Ballet is one of the building blocks of dance and is encouraged at MDA in your dance education.
